Terms of Service

Draft, last updated 2 November 2026

These terms are the agreement between you and Wrenstar, the company that runs Gratica. By making an account, you agree to them. Please also read our Privacy Policy.

1. Who can use Gratica

You must be 16 or older. If you are under 16, please don't use Gratica. If we learn that someone under 16 has an account, we will delete it.

2. Your account

Give true details and keep your password safe. You are responsible for what happens under your account. You can delete it at any time in the app or on the website.

3. How Gratica works

4. Your notes

Your notes stay yours. To run Gratica, we need your permission to use them. So you give Wrenstar a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store your notes, copy them, and show them to other Gratica users with your byline. We can also let others help us do this, such as our hosting provider.

This license ends when you delete the note or your account. Copies in backups may last a little longer. See the Privacy Policy.

You promise that you have the right to share what you write. Notes you keep just for you are not shown to other users.

5. Rules for notes

People read your note as a small kindness from a stranger. Please keep it that way. Don't post anything that is:

These rules also apply to your first name and city, because strangers see them.

6. Reports and removal

You can report any note you receive, and you can choose not to see notes from that person again. We review reports. We may hold or remove a note, or close an account, if we think it breaks these terms. We don't promise to check every note before it is sent.

7. Gratica is not a crisis service

Gratica can't help in an emergency. Notes that seem to be about a crisis stay private, and we show a list of helplines, but we don't watch for them or contact anyone. If you are in danger, call your local emergency number. In the US, you can call or text 988 at any time. Outside the US, findahelpline.org lists helplines.

8. Copyright complaints

If you think a note copies your work without permission, write to our copyright agent: [name of agent, Wrenstar's postal address, and email, as registered with the US Copyright Office]. Tell us which note, what work it copies, and how to reach you. Say that you believe in good faith the use isn't allowed and that your statement is accurate, and sign it. We remove notes that break these rules and close the accounts of people who do so repeatedly.

9. Paid plans

Gratica is free today, and nothing here charges you. If we add a paid plan, these terms will first be updated with the price, the billing period, and how to cancel. The price and renewal terms will also appear next to the button you use to pay. [To be written before any paid plan launches: auto-renewal, cancelling through the App Store or Google Play, refunds.]

10. Ending your account

You can stop at any time by deleting your account. We may suspend or close your account if you break these terms, or if we have to by law. We may also change or stop Gratica. If we stop it, we will try to tell you first.

11. No guarantees

We provide Gratica "as is". We don't promise it will always work or be free of errors. Notes come from other people, and we are not responsible for what they write. Nothing here takes away rights you have by law that can't be taken away.

12. Limit of liability

[A lawyer should write this section.] As far as the law allows, Wrenstar isn't liable for indirect or knock-on losses that come from using Gratica, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the last 12 months, or US$50 if that is more.

13. The law that applies

[The country or state whose law applies, and where disputes are heard. Owner and lawyer to decide.] If you live in the EU or UK, you keep the protections of your home country's law.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change matters, we will tell you in the app or by email before it applies. If you don't agree, you can delete your account.
